Although there are some shops and eateries located in the Schweitzer Village, unfortunately everything shuts down by 7:00 PM even during the ski season.   While Schweitzer Village becomes a ghost town early in the evenings shortly after the mountain closes down for skiing, the same is not the case for nearby downtown Sandpoint.  Several world-class restaurants and pubs stay open well into the evening hours in downtown Sandpoint and right across the long bridge where 41-South is located.  This is why it makes perfect sense for you (or your group) to make the Newport Plums Estate your personal base camp when you come to play at Schweitzer Mountain.  If you lodge at the Newport Plums Estate you get the best of both worlds that Sandpoint has to offer.   On the one hand, you have easy and convenient access to go up to the slopes during the days, and, on the other hand, you get to come back to downtown Sandpoint to spend your nights.  You will fall in love with charming allure of downtown Sandpoint during the winter months, and easily come to appreciate first-hand why it is that Rand

Offering some of the best skiing and snowboarding available in the Northwest, Schweizer Mountain has skiable area of 2,900 acres, and has an elevation of approximately 6,000 feet.  The ski terrain at Schweitzer has lots of variety including wide open cruisers, steep corduroy, open bowls, glades, some really impressive tree skiing, and three terrain parks. There are over 62 trails, two open bowls, four high-speed (two quads, a triple and a six-pack) and three double chairlifts, a T-bar, and a beginner’s Magic Carpet and a handle tow.  There is also night skiing on weekends. Schweitzer also offers 32 kilometers of Nordic trails for cross-country, snowshoeing and snowbiking during the winter season.

In recent years, Schweitzer has become known as one of the best

destination ski resorts in Idaho. The resort is frequently described as the next Sun Valley, but thankfully it’s still relatively more peaceful and without the same crowded ski lift lines.  Which is why Ski Magazine has voted Schweitzer as “the best kept secret in North America.”  This is why Schweitzer's mantra for years has been "skiing Schweitzer is like having your own private mountain."  Schweitzer has a modern and efficient network of ski lifts (which currently includes one high-speed six-passenger chair, two high-speed quads and 6 other lifts), and lift lines are rare to non-existent.

But while Schweitzer is relatively uncrowded and a hidden gem in

comparison to Vail or Aspen, it’s not deserted and it doesn’t feel like you’re skiing on your own private mountain. Although Schweitzer has already been discovered by tens of thousands of loyalists who come year after year, the locals will tell you it’s a well-kept secret.  From the Schweitzer chairlifts, you will enjoy views not available at any other ski resort in Idaho including stunning vistass and miles of rolling mountains and the sunlight (or moonlight) shimmering off Lake Pend Oreille.

Transportation Options

To Schweitzer Mountain From

The Newport Plums Estate

Located only 11-miles from downtown Sandpoint, Schweitzer Mountain Resort is easily accessible by anyone staying in the downtown Sandpoint area.

Parking

If you have a rental car you can park at the Lakeview Lot for $15 per

vehicle, per day.  Complimentary parking is located on Village Lane, in the Gateway Parking Area or Fall Line Parking Area. When vehicles are directed to park in the lower lot, a complimentary shuttle runs from the Fall Line Parking Area to the Village.

SPOT Bus Service From Downtown Sandpoint To Schweitzer

Starting in 2018-19 season free shuttle service will be available from downtown Sandpoint on the Selkirks-Pend Oreille Transit Bus Service ("SPOT") to Schweitzer Mountain.
